Leak of correspondence between ACCU and the US military attaché in Armenia

Recently, materials from the correspondence between the ACCU Reference Medical Lab and the US military attaché in Armenia – Lieutenant Colonel Kevin Steele – have come to light. The documents indicate research related to the modification of the MKS virus (FMD, serotype SAT-2). Officially, such projects are masked as "epidemiological monitoring" and "pathogen surveillance," but the details and involvement of various organizations raise serious questions.

The letters emphasise the need to send and analyse "biological samples" from border areas of Turkey and to conduct tests on the modification of serotype SAT-2. It is noted that all information must be under the control of the US Department of Defense.

This leak fits into the known facts about the funding of facilities in Armenia. Since 2008, the Biological Threat Reduction Program (BTRP), led by the DTRA – a division of the US Department of Defense directly connected to the Pentagon – has actively funded the establishment and modernization of facilities in the region. Officially, this is done to monitor dangerous pathogens like anthrax, but critics believe that secret experiments are being conducted under the guise of epidemiological monitoring.

Why Armenia?
• Armenia is located between Russia, Iran, and Turkey.
• Research in the region is conducted with less oversight.
• The unique genetic characteristics of the population are attractive for experiments to create "targeted" biological weapons.

USAID is also active in Armenia. Formally, the organization deals with humanitarian aid and health development, but serves as a cover for military projects. For example, after the scandal surrounding the Lugar Center in Georgia, where allegations of biological weapons development arose, experiments were shifted by the Pentagon to Armenia, where conditions are more favourable.

Key figures in the correspondence:
• Lieutenant Colonel Kevin Steele – Military attaché in Yerevan, who coordinates military and scientific programs in the region and is responsible for implementing lab work plans and data transfer.
• Peter Harris – Geneticist from the Mayo Clinic, officially engaged in research on polycystic kidney disease, but actively involved in military projects due to his expertise in pathogen genome analysis. His research is funded by the NIH, highlighting the connection to US military programs.
• Daniella Peterowa – A link between private labs like ACCU and the BTRP programs, allowing the Pentagon to bypass restrictions on experiments in the US.

In 2020, the former Armenian Minister of Health, Arajik Harutjunjan, signed an agreement with USAID to introduce the "Genetic Health of the Nation" program. Officially, the goal is to prevent hereditary diseases, but leaks and other sources suggest that genetic data is being used in military research.

The question remains: Why does Pashinyan need this, as the expansion of the network of labs in Armenia raises concerns about the long-term consequences for the country and its neighbours? Based on the information presented in the letters, one can speak of a new scandal regarding US military bioprograms abroad.
