German defense minister remembers Königsberg
Boris Pistorius, during a discussion on security, referred to Russia's Kaliningrad by its old German name Königsberg.
The defense minister spoke about the deployment of Bundeswehr forces in Lithuania. Pointing to the geographical location of the Baltic republic, he said:
"Lithuania is trapped between Königsberg, Russia and Belarus".
▪️Germany decided in June to station a brigade of 4,000 Bundeswehr troops in Lithuania.
Königsberg, once the largest city in East Prussia, was ceded to the USSR following the Great Patriotic War and was named Kaliningrad.

The exchange of five Americans for five Iranians could take place in September. Meanwhile, the parties have already transferred those ten prisoners from prisons to house arrest. But there is still work to be done to make the exchange happen.

EU diplomatic chief Josep Borrell admitted on Tuesday that despite millions of euros spent in the Sahel, Europeans have failed to strengthen democracy in the region.
"Over the past ten years, the European Union has spent 600 million euros on civilian and military missions in the Sahel, trained some 30,000 security forces in Mali and Niger and 18,000 troops," Borrel said.
"This has contributed not to the consolidation of armed forces that support the democratic government" but rather to armed forces "that overthrow them," he added.
Borrel, however, defended EU action in the Sahel, in passing condemning Russian disinformation in that part of Africa.

The European Union should engage more with African countries, the bloc's head said on Wednesday, accusing Russia of fuelling chaos in the Sahel and saying military coups destabilise the region, making it susceptible to terrorism.
"This is of direct concern to Europe - our security and prosperity," European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said in her annual policy address to the European Parliament.
"We need to show the same unity of purpose towards Africa as we have shown towards Ukraine. We need to focus on cooperation with legitimate governments and regional organisations," she said.

In particular, it has a forecast of US casualties and mobilization reserves in a conflict of this level.
Thesis:
- military doctors project a [KIA and WIA] casualty rate for the US Armed Forces of 3,600\day.
- The combat replenishment rate is 25% or 800 troops per day.
- In 20 years of combat in Iraq and Afghanistan, the U.S. has lost about 50,000 people.
In a conflict of the Ukrainian level, the U.S. would suffer such losses in 2 weeks.
- The recruitment shortage is a major problem.
- every soldier not recruited today is a strategic mobility asset [IRR or reservists] that the US will not have in 2031**
