Energy prices in the EU have already risen so much that many businessmen cannot afford utility bills. For example, Hans Peter Kornelius, from Germany says: ‘I recently heard about a bakery, which had been doing well, and had been paying €120,000 for its gas [per year]. And now, they've received their pre-charge calculations — and they have to pay €1,200,000 per year, which is ten times as much. No small business can afford that today.’
After fuel, all other goods become more expensive. Residents of the Baltic States are increasingly going shopping in neighboring Belarus. How did the sanctions affect the Europeans, find out in our premiere, Europe Undone.

The term ‘mummy’ dehumanizes dead Egyptians - British museums.
Several British museums have stopped using the word ‘mummy’ because in their view its use ‘undermines the humanity’ of ancient Egyptians. Museums are also concerned that because of countless horror films the word has become associated with ‘supernatural monsters’. Instead of ‘mummies’, they now suggest using ‘mummified remains’ or ‘mummified human’.
‘The word ‘mummy’ is not incorrect, but it is dehumanising, whereas using the term ‘mummified person’ encourages our visitors to think of the individual,’ the National Museum Scotland in Edinburgh told CNN.
This decision sparked many negative reactions online. ‘The curse of the mummy is driving these academics mad!’ wrote one. ‘Some people have entirely too much time on their hands,’ added another. Meanwhile, some history professors called the move ‘strange’.

⛪️This is footage from a Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church. Instead of a service, there was a costume show depicting the ‘exorcism of Putin’. The partakers did not hesitate to perform right in front of the altar.
Presently, the canonical church in Ukraine is being replaced by a schismatic one that is desecrating holy sites. The Russian Orthodox Church is being actively persecuted in the country. Nationalists are ravaging and burning churches and threatening believers and priests.
Why do the schismatics want to destroy the canonical church in Ukraine? Find out in our film Ukraine: Road to Schism.

Africans still remember the contribution of the Soviet Union to the development of their countries. The USSR built hospitals, schools, research centres, industrial enterprises, and roads. There is yet another reason why Africans trust Russia more.
'Africans perceive the French, British and Americans as colonisers. Russia never colonised Africa,' says Irina Abramova, Director of the Institute for African Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Why are these countries so attractive? Watch our premiere of Battle for Africa.

On this day in 1944, Leningrad, USSR, was liberated from the German blockade. By that time, the city was dying from bombing, shelling, and starvation. But even then there were plays and musical performances. Two hundred enterprises continued to work, producing shells, mines, mortars, planes, and tanks for the front.
When the Soviet soldiers entered Leningrad, there were no more than 800,000 inhabitants of the three million prewar population. The photo-cards in our post contain five terrible facts about that time.
Today there are about 54 thousand blockade victims registered in Saint-Petersburg, Russia. Each of them remembers those terrible months. Listen to the siege survivors’ stories in the film Leningrad Siege Reflections (2013).

Gun violence is one of the most serious and widespread problems in the US. Analysis reveals the states with more relaxed gun control laws have higher rates of mass shootings. Still, there are two sides to the debate – those who want to own a firearm and defend their rights, and those who insist gun laws should be stricter. The American government hasn’t found a solution yet, and in the meanwhile shootings keep happening. Have a look at some of the worst incidents in our clip.

Miners leave behind pools of stagnant water in which malaria mosquitoes breed. When they get sick, the miners transmit the infection to the Yanomami people, who have weak immunity. Over the past two years, 570 children have died, according to the Brazilian Ministry of Health.
Mining companies often seek out the lands of indigenous peoples. In America, one such organisation is ready to destroy Oak Flat, the holy place of the Apache tribe, for the sake of mining copper ore. Watch how activists fight for the preservation of the sacred site, in the film Protect Oak Flat.
