An AI assistant for neurosurgeons is being tested at seven hospitals in Beijing. CARES Copilot 1.0 was unveiled by the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Researchers trained and fine-tuned the model with papers, medical journals and manuals to act as a surgery consultant. It will answer questions with citations based on more than a million academic records. The bot should also be able to process diagnostic data such as MRI, ultrasound or CT scans, as well as images, text and audio.

A harrowing incident unfolded in the New York subway when a man opened fire in a crowded car. Initially, he attacked one of the passengers, brandishing a knife before drawing his weapon.
